PARKING INFORMATION

Refer to the run course maps(upper right)for race day parking. If you choose to park on a street please be aware of which streets are part of the bike course as the bike course will be CLOSED to vehicular traffic while the kids are on the course.

Please note that the closer you park to the actual race site, the more difficulties you may encounter if you try to leave before the kids are off the course. If you park on South Stadium drive (south of Tiger Stadium) you can walk up to the race site and it will allow you to leave early without interferring with the bike course.

Some parking is reserved for volunteers, race staff and vendors.

Rocketkidz will be here before you know it! We have a few changes this year that hopefully will result in an even better event. The main race site will be the large field in front of the Natatorium (where Rocketchix will be held the day before). New maps are being completed. Kids go out the front door of the Nat this year and into the field for transition. The biggest change is use of the shoulder on Nicholson between N.Stadium and W.Chimes. We will close one lane to traffic as a buffer (with barricades and cones) and the kids will use the lane-sized shoulder to ride. We are also adding an invitation-only relay division, Comet Relays. The Comet Relay division will utilize the same course as the Sputniks.

Saturns - two loops of the bike course.
Apollos - one loop of the bike course
Sputniks - they have a shortened course down N.Stadium drive and right back to transition.
Comet Relays - same bike course as Sputnik

The run course will still take place around the PMAC - but the finish line will move to the other side of the Fieldhouse (near the transition area). This means the runs will be incrementally longer than last year (a hundred meters or so).

Packet Pickup times will be posted soon.

Race Day Schedule: Be there by 6:30 am. Bike rack spots are preassigned by rack. Mandatory Parent meeting at 7:10 am. Gather in the Natatorium at 7:20 am. Saturns will go first by age group (older kids first), then Apollo’s, then Sputniks, then Comet Relays.

We are lucky again to have the Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club onsite to help with race day communication and to ensure we know what is going on along the course at all times.

NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

NO REFUNDS (but the kids get goody bags and we'll give out door prizes if the race gets cancelled). The extremely complex permitting and coordination for this event prevents us from scheduling a rain date. We reserve the right to alter or cancel the race for any reason. The race may be held in a light rain, but not in the presence of lightening.

PARENTS NOTE: The LSU Natatorium pool will be set on long course (the full 50 m) and does NOT have a shallow section anywhere in the pool (6ft or deeper in all sections). The kids must be able to progess in the water on their own (any stroke is legal) without aid of flotation devices or pulling themselves along on the ropes/wall. They can rest at the end of each 50m by hanging on the wall if need be and the lane lines are sturdy. The 7-14 yrs olds will be leaving on a time trial start and "snaking" the pool. Sputniks swim from one end to the other. Lifeguards will be on duty.

Bike Helmets with functioning straps/buckles are required. No training wheels allowed on the bike. Please make sure you kids can safely operate a bicycle and that the bike is in good working order. This course is not entirely flat so the kids need to be able to use their brakes competently. If there is some way to put a spare tube somewhere on the bike (duct taping it to the seat tube is fine), we will have folks out on the course to help change flat tires. We'll do what we can to keep these kids in the race but cannot promise miracle mechanic work.

Unsafe or inadequate bike handling can result in a DQ (for safety reasons). There are two sharp turns on the bike course that will be designated NO PASS zones (as we turn into or go through parking lots).

A better, bigger bike course means (hopefully) alot less woes when it comes to counting laps and kids. Unfortunately, it also means alot more volunteers needed to station along the course. If you, a friend or relative that can sit under an oak tree and just be on hand to help or call for help - WE CAN USE YOU! Contact Susan Hayden @ susan@rshayden.com. This race is brought to you by a non-profit organization staffed by volunteers.
