BRTri traces its roots back to the late Summer of 2001. In the Spring of 2002, plans were made to formalize the club, ways to increase membership, and officially affiliate with USA Triathlon. The original goal was 25 members. A formative meeting was held in the Spring of 2002 and the club's name, BRTri, was formally adopted.
The founding membership exceeded the original goal of 25 members. There are approximately 100+ members and more who monitor the club's comings and goings via the clubs online discussion forum at www.batonrougetri.com.
The club's membership is diverse and varies in age, ability, and experience. BRTri's membership ranges from beginners to highly experienced multisport athletes, from sprint to full IM distance racers, from college aged to seasoned life veterans. Many club members are also involved in Adventure Racing, Trail Running, Road Racing. Mountain Biking, Marathoning and just about any other endurance type activity you can think of. All are welcome regardless of ability or experience.
The club meets a couple of times a year, but most information is shared on the website. The club charges nominal annual dues to offset the costs of club registration, insurance, website and other club expenses.
The biggest benefit to membership is the sharing of information about training rides, runs, and swims; races; and the comradery of competing throughout the Gulf South as a recognizable force in the triathlon
